Upon starting this scenario, I had high expectations. Great map and OOB. Not many "house rules". All the things that a player looks for in a scenario. Myself and Schnelle Heinz decided to play this as a mirror match with Schnelle Heinz taking the Axis side first. The results of the two contests were similar, even to the point of when the scenarios ended in a Axis overwhelming victory on turn 93. The battles began simply enough with the Italian forces driving to Sidi Barrani and invoking the "cease-fire" long enough for the Commonwealth forces to buildup. On turn 25 the Commonwealth forces began O'Connor's Raid, destroying many Italian forces and forcing them back to El Agheila. Both Commonwealth advances stalled just south of Benghazi. With fresh Italian divisions, the Italians began their counterattack. The removal of the Commonwealth divisions to Greece, left the Commonwealth no chance to prevent it and the Italians quickly swept back to Tobruk where both players attempted to form a defensive line. With the German 21st Panzer Division entering the battle in strength, the Tobruk defensive line was quickly destroyed and Tobruk taken. The next Commonwealth defensive line was formed on the Egyptian-Libian border. By now the German 15th Panzer Division had entered the fray and once again the Commonwealth line was quickly destroyed. The final Commonwealth defensive line was set up from El Alamein to the Quattara Depression. The depleted Italian divisions were quickly rebuilt during the march to this line, so when the final major assault was launched, the Italian divisions that were used to maintain pressure on the retreating Commonwealth forces, could be replaced by rebuilt Italian divisions. The German 90th Light Division had now entered the battle. Despite the reduced distance to Commonwealth reinforcements and the supply depot at Alexandria, the Commonwealth line was quickly destroyed, Alexandria captured and Cairo quickly placed under siege. Why was the Commonwealth forces unable to stop the Axis? The Axis forces regained strength quickly, too quickly. Many reinforcement units crossing the desert actually gained strength while using the maximum movement allowance. Resting Axis forces for one turn at the front would allow them to gain strength while Commonwealth forces would often take five to six turns to recuperate. The Commonwealth forces were also too easily destroyed, while combat reports would show perhaps 25 percent loss, the overall attack and defense strength the unit would often be reduced in half. Axis forces were also able to get five to six combat rounds per turn, where a good turn for the Commonwealth player would be three rounds. The final analysis of this scenario, for myself, is that it would be a challenging scenario to play as the Commonwealth player against the Axis PO.

Well I got the victory at turn 102 because my Axis opponent surrendered. In general this is a well designed scenario where both players can win and have their own strength and weakness. For the british the main strength is the Navy and the artillery so try to stay at the navy range. Don't precipitate your attack beyond the cover of the Navy except if you managed to wip out the German Air forces which is the main strength of the Axis side. One key for the british is often to buy time by giving ground then when the axis get exhausted because of the current attack then counter attack with all your forces. I managed to win like that by trapping most of German divisions between Tobruk and the Bardia's coast. One big mistake my oponent did, was to forgot some aircraft units at my battleships' gun range. In general good scenario were you need to plan your attacks and not rush !
