Russian 1st Cavalry Army is inactive until turn 9. Each Russia-controlled Ukrainian Sich Rifle Brigade has a chance to desert in turn 1. All of them desert in turn 2, if Poles don't attack them. West Front reinforcements arrive sooner, as long as Russian units don't cross no-man's land. "Blockade" units are withdrawn 3 turns after Poles capture Kyiv, when Russians cross no-man's land or on turn 11. HOUSE RULES: No rail movement on enemy controlled terrain, except armoured trains, but no more then 3 hexes away other own unit. *** Poles try to remake their state with historical borders - including Belorus and Ukraine. Red Army, after victory in civil war, plans march westward - to Europe. Polish Army Mosaic Divisions 1st-3rd have been based on Legion Brigades, volunteer formations fighting during WWI against Russia. Divisions 4th-6th and 21st have been organized based on regiments of Autro-Hungarian army from Galicia. Divisions 7th-10th have been organized in Kongresowka - Central Poland, which was part of the old Russian Empire before WWI. Divisions 11th-13th and 18th have been organized in France during WWI. Divisions 14th-17th based on units organized in Poznan province - Western Poland, which was part of German Empire before WWI. 1st and 2nd Lithuanian-Belorussian Divisions was formations based on Polish volunteers from these countries. Polish Dilemma There was two conceptions of Polish state in 1918 and later - Piast and Jagiellonian. The names are from two dynasties of Polish kings. The first one has governed in X-XIV centuries, when borders of Polish state are similiar present-day's. Second one has been Lithuanian dynasty, which starts to govern after Polish-Lithuanian union in 1396. It's name become from king Wladyslaw Jagiello. Lithuanian state in XIV century has contained big area of "Rus'" territory, except later Duchy of Moscow area (from XVIII century - "Russia"). Belorus and Ukraine it is this part of Rus' which has been conquered by Lithuanians and became part of "Commonwelth of Both Nations" after next union in 1572. When Ukraine is incorporated to "Polish Crown" and Belorus remains in "Great Duchy of Lithuania". So, "Piast Poland" it is Poland inside exactly ethnic borders. "Jagiellonian Poland" it is Great Poland - including Lithuania, Belorus and Ukraine. It is relation like England and Great Britain. There was big debate in 1918-20. Conception of "Border Federation" lost after collapse of "Kyiv Expedition". Lithaunians were hostile to any federation as they afraid of Polish domination and be able to organize own independent state. Peace Treaty of Riga based on idea of simple incorporation of these areas of Belorus and Ukraine, where Polish minority was significant. Without any concession for Ukrainians and Belorussians. It was really a partition of Ukraine and Belorus between Poland and Russia. Nowadays many Poles think, that it was big mistake. Me too. We should support their own states, even they are very weak and can turn agains Poland. Probability of their hostility was always lower then appetites of Russian state.
