Briefing

THE BATTLE ON THE BZURA 1 - Western Flank

Polish Operational Group of Cavalry vs. German 221st reserve infantry division.

1. UNIT COLORS
1.1. GERMAN
  • White on Grey - Wehrmacht
1.2. POLISH
  • Dark Blue on Green - All units
2. SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
Capturing the 8th Army stockpile at Wartkowice (10,7) will increase the Polish supply level and decrease the German supply.
3. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Operational Group of Cavalry, comanded by gen. Grzmot-Skotnicki, was placed on the western flank of the Polish forces striking across the Bzura river. Its objective was to outflank the German troops and to get behind their lines through Ozorkow. Unexpectedly, the 221st German infantry division from the "South" Army Group reserve arrived from the west; the Polish cavalry had to change the plans.
The clash between elite, mobile cavalry troops and the "third wave" infantry division (supported by a company of PzKw IV) deserves the rememberance.
