1945 America Invaded ScenarioThis is one one my first scenarios done aorund 1999-2000, so it may have some little bugs, and the map would need to be redone, but I am lazy. This is an absurd scenario of course, as it would have been impossible, but for war gaming fun, let us think of a possible Axis invasion of the Americas in 1945. 1. History After swallowing Poland, Norway and Denmark, the German onslaught on the West took everyone by surprise. In May 1940, the German forces advanced through Belgium and the Low Countries while the main attack surrounded French and British Forces by passing through the Ardennes and reaching Abbeville. British and French forces in Dunkirk were annihilated and while Paris was captured, German forces did not advance as much south. Instead, using whatever transport that was found (mainly river barges) a force of airborne elements (two divisions) and two German corps (one mountain, one panzer) were landed In late July 1940, before the RAF was even reorganized, on the South shores of England and rapidly wiped out the British defenses in less than a month fighting. As London fell without resistance, amidst a shocked and surprised population, the King imposed a truce against the will of the Churchill's government, in Liverpool, who immediately fell. The peace conditions were not very harsh to Britain. Britain retained its fleet, less a few ships paid in War reparation (CV Ark Royal, BB Nelson, BB Howe, 20 destroyers), kept its forces and army and allowed a National-Socialistic party to exist in Britain. German would seize for a ten year time the Orkneys, Greenland and Iceland, Gibraltar and Malta would be ceded to Spain and Italy. US president Roosevelt protested but could not act much once the agreement was made and the main USA population was quite happy about a quick peace. France agreed to a peace where only the part north of the Loire would be occupied for 10 years. Nice and Savoy were handed to Italy who did not invade Yugoslavia and Greece as both these countries joined a German-led Anti-Communist Alliance with Italy, Spain, Hungary, Rumania, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway and Denmark. In 1941, Germany turned east to invade the Soviet Union. With extra reserves and no West front to care about, it turned the tide and occupied Moscow in the early winter if 1941. While German troops occupied the city, the local population was forced in the open, causing the death of a million Russians. In 1942, the German offensives managed to take Leningrad in the north and the Caucasus in the South. Backed by the USA, Soviet government retreated to the Urals and started a guerilla war, while German troops were happy to occupy and start to colonize Russia and the Ukraine as far as the front line in the Urals. In 1941, Japan tried to attack the USSR and the British and Dutch possessions in Asia. After initial successes, the USA joined the War in defense if Britain, amidst severe criticism at home. However, the war went well and Japan suffered some major naval defeats t the hand of the Royal Navy, eager for revenge, and the US carrier forces. Japan agreed to a peace in 1943, loosing most of its WW1 gains and its territory in China, but keeping Manchuria and Taiwan. US forces, battle hardened by fighting in the Philippines and the Marianas strengthened their bases there. One important side effect of that war was the US and Britain lack of experience in Strategic bombing. As 1943 drew to an end, the USA and Britain retained large fleets, but mainly deployed in the Pacific as they thought the German armies bogged down in anti-partisan warfare in Russia. However some worrying diplomatic games started to take place. Peron-led Argentina became the first South American country to claim an alliance with Franco's Spain for a Latin alliance. Fascist parties in Chile, Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico started to become more and more powerful as they started to receive financial support from Germany, Spain and Italy. The USA signed an alliance treaty with Brazil, Venezuela and Cuba, while Mexico declined. In 1944, some pro-Spain guerilla started to appear in Cuba as the pro-Spain party was abolished and US marines intervention in Havana spawned some serious unrest. The USA reinforced its presence in Panama, Cuba and Venezuela. France also sold to Germany its islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe, where large military facilities started to be built. In 1944, Truman won the US elections by a marginal victory and proclaimed a strong enforcement of the Monroe doctrine. In the fall of 1944, the King of Britain died in mysterious conditions and was replaced by his pro-Nazi brother and the British National-Socialistic. Led by Churchill, part of the British political establishment exiled itself to Canada which, in support asked for banning Britain from the Commonwealth. Australia, India and New Zealand soon backed the proposal and in the turmoil that followed, Hitler ordered the German troops to launch a second invasion of Britain to "secure peace". This turned the country in what became a civil war and the fleeing of millions to Canada and the USA German forces, managed to seize a sizeable portion of the British merchant fleet, while maintaining order on behalf of the new King, recognized by very few Britons. Queen Elisabeth the 2nd was proclaimed Queen in Canada with Winston Churchill as head of government. In early 1945, as news of the secret massive build up of the German navy started leaking, as well as repeated refusal from the Nazi government to disclose the location of detention and conditions of the 10 million missing European Jews, the US navy launched a series of intimidation exercises in the Caribbean and made a dash of its fast Atlantic carrier fleet off the coasts of Britain and France. This massive fleet of over 20 Essex-class carriers was trailed by German high-altitude recon planes and submarine fleet. In March 1st 1945, over a 1000 bombers, escorted by over 1000 jet fighters took off from France's and England's eastern airfields to make a surprise attack on the US Atlantic Fleet. The German flying bombs and missiles, launched miles away were the first to hit. The US fleet, caught in surprise by these new weapons, and outclassed by the Me262's fighters was decimated and the remaining ships finished off by the German submarine and surface units. This attack, in which over 15'000 US sailors and airmen lost their lives, was considered a "cowardly attack" and brought massive popular support of president Truman, who, in its' "Day of Infamy" speech vowed for the USA to fight till the end with its American and Commonwealth allies for the sake of democracy and freedom in the world. The next days' first V-4 hitting Boston added to the strong will of the population to fight to victory, whatever the sufferings to endure. However, in spring 1945, with few land units scattered across North America and the Pacific, and its Atlantic Fleet annihilated, the USA and Commonwealth face a challenging task to build their forces for operations across the Atlantic, but were not ready to face an Axis invasion of North and Central America. With Axis forces attacking Egypt and Persia The first of such attacks was to be a Guadeloupe-based attack of the US-based nuclear facilities at Los Alamos |
