Russian Front March 1942- April 1943 Axis Armies ----------- 2nd Hungarian Army 4th Panzer Armee 3 & 4th Romanian Armies 6th Armee 1st Panzer Armee 17th Armee 11th Armee * 8th Italian Army Soviet Armies ------------- 3rd Tank Army 24th Army 21st Army 62nd Army 64th Army 65th army 57th Army 51st Army 28th army 5th Tank Army 1st Guards Army 1st Shock Army 1st Tank Army 58th Army 18th Army 9th Army 66th army 56th Army This scenario covers the most dramatic and decissive actions along the entire russian front during 1942 and the first quarter of 1943. From the end of Operation Fredericus, through Fall Blau, the axis attempt to reach the Volga and the Caspian shore, till the soviet counteroffensive and final german riposte at Karkhov. As the german player, yo have to advance swiftly through the steppe, hoping to capture your objetives, namely Stalingrad and the oil fields at Armavir and Maikop before the shaken russian armies begin to recover and prepare for the counteroffensive. Be aware that most of your 11 Armee will be withdrawn during the summer, even if they didn't capture their objetives, Sevastopol and Kerch principally. As the Russian, you have to trade ground for time, at least till you gather enough strength around Stalingrad. Your forces are outnumbered at the begining but they will recover steadly and by the autumn of 1942 you should have a pretty nice force and your enemy will be already commiting it's last forces on a much extended front. Whether you choose to aim at the encirclement of the german 6 Armee or not, it's just up to yourself, although initial deployment of your reinforcements favour this course. Again, be aware that you can be too weak by the time you get to Kharkov and Belgorod back in 1943. |
