WAR IN EUROPE 93Version 4.2 1. Background The 1991 military Coup d'Etat in ex-RUSSIA has been successful. Subsequently, the disarmement has been frozen, and a new URSS has engaged a fast and costly rearmement, arguing that it was necessary to replace the many equipments that have been destroyed by the lack of maintenance... Occidental economists have all predicted that URSS could not assume alone the cost of such a revirement... After long considerations and divergences by the Congress,USA finally haven't deployed more troops in Europe, as they continue to expect a peaceful achievement. The 22 june 1993, URSS militarists convinced that NATO is reluctent to stand a long and dangerous war decide to invade west germany and some other minor countries... 2. Prelude At last, I achieved one of my oldest project : the creation of a wargame scenario depicting a hypothetic world war 3 ! Until today, what was lacking was a suitable support to cover all the ideas I wanted to integrate. Also not perfect (but the perfection doesn't exist, doesn't it ?) OPERATIONAL ART OF WAR 2 (TM) was finally the chosen game to adapt my dream. 3. Previous "War in Europe" released scenario The name of this scenario could remind something to those of you who have played my first scenario, created under OPERATIONAL ART OF WAR 1 (TM), which intitulate "War In Europe". It can be found on several servers, dedicated to wargames...(Gamers, Talonsoft) As many of you sent me positive mails (but also critic, thanks to you) I was really limited by the huge scale (both distance and time) I used, and by the creator engine of OAOW 1 (also patched several times) to make a top game. If it had the engine of OAOW 2, I could have made something better... 4. Inspirations of "War In Europe 93" 4.1. The movies
4.2. The books
4.3. What they are not (precisely) Any scenario already on the net, since I really don't needed inspiration in the work of other guys... 5. The main goals are
6. The toys to achieve that Really more than a normal wargamer could dream about (are they normal wargamers ?)... 7. And I tried to respect divergent points of view as Gung-ho players will play or suffer chemical and nuclear effects (at 3 levels of escalation) Peaceful players could try to limit the damages of such loved (Ho ? I'm alone ?) weapons... Technical players will make some satellites shooting games... Grunt ones (most of US), will rampage with armored divisions. Speeded ones will prefer massive air slaughtery... Romantic ones (any ?) will take their time with timed-living fleets... 8. For players who don't have any sense of humor (but the patience to read the text until here) Many hundred / thousand units in EACH side... More than 440 programmed events, including :
9. Conclusion At first, thank to those patient players who have read all this boring narcissistic text (my life, my works...) I must admit that I have hesitated to put this long and hard work on the net, as I would really don't like to see (or hear) that a greedy guy or company could put it on a "Extension pack" scenario disk and sell it on the market... But I think that Internet is like a "spanish inn" : you will find what you will bring... Clearly, it means that it is to us to make it live, with every contribution we're able to do... This work will be corrected every time I will have time to do it. 10. Credits While not modest, this is the work of only one guy, me...so, while shouldn't I mention it ? My name is Patrick Feyret, I'm french (sorry for the faults) and I actually work as a software-users teacher...32 years, 1m 82 and a big left hand (the one which handled the mouse during the developpment)... |
