Operation Enduring FreedomHypothetical What If Scenario Best played as the U.N. Coalition. 1. UNIT COLORS
2. Significant Events
3. Situation Since 7 October 2001 the United forces have slowly been closing in on Osama bin Laden's location. Chased around Afghanistan he has been herded towards the Pakistan border in the Hindu Kush Mountains southeast of Kabul. Here bin Laden has a last stand fortress at Tora Bora. On the morning of 11 Novemberr 2001 the forces of the American lead United Nation Coalilton begin the final assault against the forces of International Terrorism in Afghanistan. The Afghan Northern Alliance in conjunction with the U.S. lead forces launches its assault to capture Kabul down the Panjshir Valley. Earlier efforts to capture Kabul from the north have been stalled. The task was the final destuction of Osama bin Laden and the destruction and overthrow of the remnants of the Taliban forces that support him. Taliban forces are bracing for the Northern Alliance assault. The many al-Qaida camps are dug in throughout the region. All the hidden air defences have been brought out for the final battle. The remnants of the Taliban Air Force have flown in to defend the Capital. Taliban reinforcements from the Kandahar region are rushing towards the Capital. What forces that can break away from the fighting north of Kabul are falling back towards the Capital. Taliban reinforcements from the Khowst Region also are moving towards the fighting. Pakistani Militia forces are organizing to join the unholy jihad. Intellegence indicated Osama bin Laden may have plans to escape into Pakistan. The skys over Afghanistan are clear except for the planes of the United Nations. Winter storms are moving in rapidly. At night U.S. Navy seals conduct hit and run raids across the region. U.S. Army Delta Force special forces enter upon the first night to add to the Taliban's confussion. Special Forces of the United Nations have located the general area that Osama bin Laden has hidden. Allied forces are converging on the area. So begins the final assault to bring him to JUSTICE. What if the American effort was to go all out at the start of the War in Afghanistan? The units on the Allied side are some of the ones that could have been utilized for such an assault. There are others that might have joined in the effort with special forces units, such as Germany, Italy, and the Canadians. It looked politically unwise to have included the Russians in any offensive ground operation. Air units were an other matter. It also supposes that there would be operations throught Afghanistan that would also go after other Taliban and al-Quada holdouts. There would be also strong efforts to close off the very long boarders into Pakistan and Iran to prevent any escape. With the many different spellings of place names there may be some discrepancies. Most were taken from the Rand McNally map program. Some from other websites, especially from BBC.com. There is a liberal interpretation of the use of roads in the scenario. Many of these are trails, some fairly well established and others goat size depicted in the mountains. The location of Tora Bora is fairly close based on what could be gathered through the World's News Services. It may be a bit larger however. There are also a few other cave complexes that were not fully identified and not incorporated on the Map. |
