The Bells Toll for Madrid. The Battles of Jarama and Guadalajara. February - March 1937. Designed by Pablo Martín 2.001. Bibliographical research by Francisco Veiga "The Legión, from the lone man to the entire Legión, will hasten always to where fighting is heard, by day, by night, always, always, even though not ordered to do so" From the Legionaire`s Credo by Millan Astray, founder of the Spanish Foreign Legion. "Tomorrow I`m leaving my home I`m leaving my oxen and my village Salud! Where are you going? Tell me - I`m enlisting in the Fifth Regiment! Excerpt from Rafael Alberti`s poem "I`m from the Fifth Regiment" During winter 1937 the fascist powers spurred Franco to capture Madrid and put an end to the war. The brief but brutal battles of Jarama and Guadalajara were the struggle of two strong wills fighting to the death. It´s end only preluded two more brutal years of bloody Civil war. Scale: 2,5 km per hex. Full day turns. Events: Italian demoralization: "Domani Guadalajara, dopodomani Alcalá a fra tre giorni Madrid" Keep your time table or your troops would demoralize!
