EVENTS If Whites capture the road conection leading to Russia the reds will suffer a dramatic drop of supplies. Reds will lose supplies when whites capture the following cities: Tampere, Viipuri & Helsinki. A German force will arrive after turn 7. They will invade the southern coast and try to capture Helsinki. GOALS White: You must destroy the Red forces and recapture the captial and the industrial centers of the nation. Try to win without relying too much on the German force that is coming to help us. Red: Defend Tampere at all cost. Be prepared when the Germans arrive. HISTORY Finland declared independence from Russia in december 1917. In the beginning of 1918 communists (reds) supported by the russians tried to take control over the nation. After some fighting they succeeded in the southern parts of Finland. At that time the government forces (whites) consisted mostly of volunteers. The government immediately started training new troops. In march they started an offensive against the reds around Tampere. While the reds were busy there, the German East sea division landed on the southern coast and captured Helsinki. Fortenately the whites had already beaten the reds at Tampere. Now the whites started moving forces to the Carelian isthmus and the city Viipuri was captured in the end of april. In the beginning of may the remaining red forces surrendered around the city Lahti. More than 30000 people lost their lives in the war, most of them died of famine or were executed or murdered. |
