Case Green The German attempt, after the failure of diplomacy at Munich, to crush the Czechs in a lightning campaign. Date: Oct. 1, 1938 Map Scale: 15 km/hex Turn Length: Half Week Number of Turns: 12 Unit Scale: Division, Brigade, Regiment, Battalion Unit Colors Wehrmacht: White/Black on Gray-Green Luftwaffe: Lt. Blue/Black on Gray-Green SS: Black/Black on Gray-Green Czech: Green/White on Steel Gray ***** Hitler risks all, sending a newly formed, under-equipped Wehrmacht in a late-season campaign against a well fortified but small Czechoslovakian army. The German plan is a classic pincer attack: The Second and Fourteenth Armies deploy at the narrow waist of Czechoslovakia, attacking from the north and south, cutting the country in half, then advancing west toward Prague. The Eighth Army advances from the west, aiding the pincer movement by pinning the Czechs west of Prague. The Czechs will attempt a dogged defense, withdrawing slowly toward Prague, while vainly hoping for aid from the West, or if able to blunt the attack, for a diplomatic solution. ***** Significant Events: The Lutwaffe and Wehrmacht enjoy small "shock" effects for the first 2-3 turns. If Pizen and/or Brno fall, Czech supply levels are reduced slightly. If Praha (19,31) is taken, the Czechs surrender and the scenario ends. There is a 33% chance, starting with turn six, that storms will occur. There is a 50% chance, starting with turn six that the German supply system will become "strained," resulting in slightly lower levels of German supply. ***** This scenario is based on Case Green, the game in issue 152 of Strategy & Tactics magazine, designed by John Desch. This scenario was created by Maynard Erdman. |
