AN ALTERNATIVE HISTORY OF WWII. Scenario I "The Manchurian Affair" Date: July 42 Theatre: Far East. Ground Scale: 10 kilometers/hex Time Scale: Half Week Turns. Turns: 25 Unit level: Regiment/Battalion. Play: Best as Axis. Design: V1.07 using Opart 300 Author: Edward Hayes. GENERAL BACKGROUND. This series of scenarios of an alternative history line for WWII is based on two premises. These are:- 1. The US lost the Battle of Midway and all their carriers were destroyed. 2. The Axis powers developed an agreed Strategic Plan for fighting the Allies. The loss of the carriers at Midway has stopped any futher US offensive operations in the Pacific. America goes on the defensive retaining more troops at home to defend any possible Japanese invasion, reducing support in N Europe and the Mediterranean and eliminating any imminent threat of Allied invasions. This enables Hitler to transfer more divisions to the Eastern Front. The Axis now agree to conduct a joint campaign, with the Japanese opening a new front from Manchuria, designed to cut the Trans-Siberian Railway and isolate Vladivostok. Realising that they can only mount a limited offensive against the Russians, they plan to annexe the area running from Udskoye in the North East down to Blagoveshchensk and then defend their gains. In preparation for the anticipated counter attack on their left flank they are already building defensive forts along The Great Wall of China, at Yala and Mukden. JAPANESE KWANTUNG ARMY COLOURS Imperial Divisions: Red/Tan JAAF: Pale Blue/Tan Japanese Navy: Blue/Tan Garrisons: Green/Tan Others: Pale Yellow/Tan RUSSIAN COLOURS. Guards: Red/Maroon Guards (Mongolian): Green/Maroon Garrisons: Yellow/Maroon Soviet Navy: Green/Maroon T-S Rail Repair: Grey/Maroon Others: Black/Maroon SU Airforce: Grey/Maroon EVENTS. Japanese Force Shock and Air Shock are at 120% on Turns 1 & 2 to simulate the surprise offensive. Russian Air Shock is 120% on Turn 11 to simulate a major bombing attack from Baykal. Russian supply relies heavily on the Trans-Siberian Railway. If the line is cut at Svobodnvy supply will drop 10% and the Russian PO will immediately launch an all out attack to recover it. Japanese supply will greatly improve once either Soviet Harbour or Vladivostok is taken. The Japanese Navy Force will withdraw on Turn 10 to be replaced by a Coastal Detail. Russian reinforcements will regularly come down the Trans-Siberian Railway and through Inner Mongolia. KEY FACTORS. Most Japanese formations have Ferry Bridging Engineers. Japanese have a Para group at Korsakov, on Sackhalin island. Japanese defences along the Great Wall of China at Yalu and Mukden will gradually build up as the scenario progresses. Russian units on Sakhalin have poor morale and could withdraw or surrender if Okha is taken. |
