After NATO responds with Nuclear weapons, the PACT will use Nuclear weapons as well. BACKGROUND NATO's CENTAG covering the vital East-West German border is attacked. CENTAG is comprised of two Bundeswehr (WG Army) Korp's, two US ARMY Corp's and a Canadian Mech Bde. Following the winter training period, at the end of May, the WARSAW PACT has attacked in order to take advantage of PACT troop concentrations and foul weather that will hamper NATO air units. The combined weight of twelve PACT divisions will lead the initial assault towards Stuttgart and the vital POMCUS sites. Elements of at least three Soviet Armies and two complete East German and Czech Armies should be expected during the first critical days. Soviet airborne operations are to be expected as well as the involvement of hundreds of Soviet and PACT air units. CENTAG's mission is to blunt the initial assaults and prevent a breakthrough, pinning the enemy and inflicting maximum casualities, while limiting their own losses. Time is critical as REFORGER units need time to assemble and form for the important counter attack. NOTES The NATO player must realize that although he posseses many companies he is greatly outnumbered. The PACT player has battalions and is nearly equal in total units to NATO. The NATO player is advised to utilize the terrain and engineer units to dig in. Use tactical reserves at critical points to blunt the massed PACT attacks and defend in depth. Above all the NATO player must remember that his ability to counter attack is limited as well as his ability to gain quick and total air superiority. A major NATO counter attack should not occur during the time frame of this scenario. Because all of the NATO units are companies attached to Brigade formations, the breaking down of units voluntarily should be avoided. This will cause problems within the formations. The PACT player should only be concerned with deep penetrations of the NATO line and capturing the the major cities on the map. Scenario Design: Pete Abrams |
