OPERATION CRIMP First US-ARVN operation to clear the area of Saigon of VC 23rd Battalion and local NLF threat to Bien Hoa en Long Binh. Date: January 1966 Location: South Vietnam Map Scale: 2.5km Time Scale: Half-Day turns Unit Scale: Bde,Bn, Com Length: 38 turns UNIT COLORS USA-ARVN US Army- White on Green US Navy- Baby Blue-Dark Blue USAF- Lt.Blue on Green ARVN- Yellow on Yellow NLF VietCong Main Force- Red on Black Cadres- Black on Black Local Forces- Brown on Black ********** In the begin of 1966 MACV hoped to repeat the succeses of last year like operations in Ia Drang valley and USMC operations near Chu Lai. But first they had to deal with a threat that was placed north of Saigon. This area was called Iron Triangle and it coverd 96km2 along the Saigon River. It was well known to US and ARVN commanders as a VC stronghold and home of posible one or two VC main force formations. To deal with this threat MACV commanders organized a search and destroy action under the name "Operation Crimp". The main goal of this operation was to clear the area of VC forces and destroy their vaste supply depots located somewhere south of Michelin Plantation. The operation started on 15th of January 1966 and it lasted throughout January ending in stalemate and escape of 23rd VC battalion back into Cambodia. Scenario design by: Adis Hasancevic |
