This reflects the parallell operations within Operation Garbo. Storms and Cool Fronts may occur throughout the scenario. Anyone who´s been to Sweden in September knows why these events are there! As soon as Soviet Forces occupy any hex on Gotland, refugees and guerrillas may cause problems for the occupiers If Soviet Forces occupy Ljugarn (22,33), a Bridgehead will be established and a Soviet receives a vital supply point Swedish forces is likely to suffer from Shock as a result of the Soviet attacks NATO may condemn the Soviet operations and may also support Sweden with Theatre Recon and Supplies If Soviet Forces occupy Visby, the scenario ends with Soviet Victory Story/Background On the evening of the 4th of September 1992, Soviet Union attack neutral Sweden in a desperate attempt to unify the communist state before it falls apart. The attack is staged by militaries worried that the democratic process will render Russia a lesser power than Soviet Union, but they also realize that NATO and Western Europe is not a possible target since such an attack inevitably would trigger WWIII. The question is if Operation Garbo can be carried through without NATO intervention? One key area to avoid such an intervention is Gotland where NATO would be likely to set up bases in a limited support action to rescue Sweden from its attackers. But the politics are difficult to predict as Finland is also being attacked by the Soviet Union and Norway is under threat if the war would escalate. For the Soviet player it is crucial to take control over the Visby harbour and airport to prevent the possibilites of a NATO intervention and also to set up bases for launching missions into Sweden and potentially Northern Europé Hints: The Soviet Player must occupy Ljugarn (22,33) to create a bridgehead and start bringing supply in. The head straight for Visby to conquer the harbour and the airport. Parallell to setting up the supplysource at Ljugarn, you may want to launch attacks either in the south or the north to cut Swedish Forces off from the Visby area. You are working within a very narrow timeframe so make good use of your forces. You may also opt to divide the forces after securing the landing on Gotland in order to cover a larger area fast Scenario Design Notes: This Scenario is the my first shot with TOAW, so bear with me and any flaws in the scenario! Besides that it is freely based on a book by Harry Winter called Operation Garbo. Sometime I might add some more scenarios inspired by the book to create a small "campaign". I have made very little research into Soviet and Swedish force composition, so don´t expect to find "real" forces. The goal has instead been to balance the scenario and for myself to learn the editor, including the event editor The scenario was designed for Human Controlled Soviet Player and Computer AI controlled Swedish Forces Please send feedback to robert.widell@trollhattan.mail.telia.com Change Log: V1.0 Scenario first released outside my living room |
