Operation Timimoun Historical counter-guerilla battle in Sahara desert.. France vs National Liberation Front of Algeria. Background General Bigeard has been ordered with his 3rd Regiment Colonial Parachutistes (3° R.C.P) to Search and destroy rebel forces of the National Liberation Front operating in the rich in oil Sahara desert. Few weeks earlier one company of "Meharistes", camel mounted cavalry composed of saharians has assassinated their french officers and deserted to join the F.L.N forces. French oil companies are worried about the rebellion. Few days ago, one convoy of trucks has been ambushed and european civilians have been massacred. Bigeard's most diffult task is to find those well trained bedouins helped by veteran guerilla units hiding in some 100 000 km2 of hot like hell desert. Nota French paratroopers and equipment are not really meant to assault dunes. So it only will be by an excellent organisation, combination of recon/air and fire support that they will have a chance to make The difference on this new kind battlefield. French force: Blue White Red. NLF: Brown. Sources "Pour une parcelle de gloire" General Bigeard. Ed.Presse Pocket. "La guerre d'Algerie", SPL. "Troupes d'Elite", Editions Atlas.
