Bloody swamps1. Background On September 22nd 1980 the Divisions of Iraq's President Saddam Hussein invaded Iran. They advanced very slowly, waiting for an event who never came: the collapse of Iranian Islamic regime... The Iraqi player should try to advance and take as many cities as possible before the enemy get enough strong to counterattack. His chances for victory increase after he has at least 68 VPs. Also he should take the 4 Iranian oilfields in the Southern battlefield area in order to reduce the Iranian supply level. But remember that if you go to far to victory the Soviet Union could possibly come in support of a new Iranian communist regime. The Iranian player should try to hold ground in the early stages of the war and wait fo reinforcements. When he has liberated his homeland he could attempt to invade the Iraqi territory and seize at least 22 VPs for the Saddam's regime to collapse. But in doing an invasion of the Iraqi territory the outside support will send Iraq enough vital supplies and replacements to resist. There is also a possibility that Jordan enters the war with an armoured division to support Saddam Hussein. If the USSR intervenes in the conflict there is a great chance that Pres. Reagan sends a naval/airborne force in Iraq. The Iranian player has the opportunity to launch a series of offensives ( by choosing on his theatre options) on the following turns: 54 125 180 235 290 344 When he launches an offensive, he recieves a militia army joining the fight for about 12 turns and he has an opportunity to surprise the enemy for that turn if the battle briefing reports it. One last suggestion, he should not trust too much his Civilian and Gendarmerie units as they are scheduled to disband after about 8-12 turns. |
