Thanks guys! 1. Changes 1.1. Version 6 - Unit color changes
- Added command and support squads to HQ's
- Removed sudden death victory events
- Lower replacement priority for Slovak, Rumanian and Hungarian units
1.2. Version 5 Changes implemented after playtesting vs Veers.
Thanks for the game Wyatt! - Most Soviet reinforcements set at Gorky
- Deleted the news line for most withdrawals in order to increase FoW.
- MRPB set to 3.
- Readjusted shock values
- Readjusted activation of certain Soviet formations
1.3. Version 4 - Changed support scope. All on Force Support, air on free support.
- Changed icon colors Waffen SS to grey counter with black icon.
- Corrected some events which got messed up in the conversion process.
1.4. Version 3 - Replacement adjustments.
- VP adjustments.
- Shock levels adjustments.
1.5. Version 2 Corrected some replacment issues.
You may have noticed late war production equipment already assigned to some 1941 units, like the Soviet 300mm MRL (1944 production) and no 132mm assigned. This -among other minor equipment bugs- is fixed. 1.6. Version 1 - Map upgrade: added some well known cities, Demyansk to name one, Geographical changes -rivers, rail etc- in an effort to make the good original map even more accurate. This will especially be noticed in the Caucasus and Grozny approaches.
- OOB: consistent abbreviations, my personal taste for uncluttered OOB's
- Unit colors changed for some countries
- Modified Italian, Hugarian and Slovak withdrawals and reinforcements, per Axis History Factbook website info.
- Hungarian, Slovakian and Romanian units set on fixed reconstitution points. German and Italian units retain free reconstitution status. Soviets retain their central reconstitution point near Grozny.
- Romanian airforce has IAR-80's instead of Italian fighters. Replacements have been modified accordingly.
- Tweaks to the original PO, to accomodate for some of the additional cities, among other issues like front coverage and "final" objectives.
Maybe for a future update I'll use the Equipment Editor to solve some equipment transition issues.
You might notice late war production equipment already assigned to some 1941 units. Oleg kindly responded to my queries :
"As I remember, the main problem of this scen was lack of coincidence between armament slots in the units and armament flow, of different types. A really huge work and testing on this wasneeded, so the scen was put aside..."
and
"... wrong equipment was mostly made intentionally, to minimize the range of equipment via substitution of rare and short-time used one with more common. What I mean is lack of some types of equipment in units and force pool, especially after 1942, and simultaneous excess of other types, which can not be "consumed", so to say." 2. Original notes You'll get more fun and the game will be more historical if you play with PO +1 handicap. (Maybe not necessary for the improved TOAWIII PO? -Silvanski) 2.1. UNIT COLOR SCHEMES 2.1.1. AXIS forces - Wehrmacht: white/grey
- Luftwaffe: white/light blue
- SS: black/grey
- Sicherung and garrisons: black/grey
- Luftwaffe: light blue/white
- Slovakian units: grey/grey
- Spanish Azul Div: dark blue/blue
- Rumanian Army and AF: blue/blue
- Hungarian Army and AF: red/green
- Hungarian security: black/green
- Italian Army and AF: light green/yellow
2.1.2. SOVIETS forces - Army and NKVD: red/red
- Guards: yellow/red
- Mech corps: black/red
- Mech corps HQ: beige/red
- AF: green/red
- Naval bdes: black/light red
- Garrisons: light red/light red
- Polish and Czech bdes: beige/light red
2.2. Events - Gradually decreasing positive shock values for the Axis and negative shock values for the Soviets during the first 7 turns, and air shock for 2 turns. Soviet AF will be under shock 90 until early 43.
- Axis supply is approximately halved for a few turns in December 41 when Russian Winter comes. This should represent the fact they were not prepared for this. Also they are under shock for a few turns.
- Partisans in the Axis rear.
- There are small bonuses for Soviet replacements if the Axis fail to capture Zaporozhe and Stalino by the historical date (16th and 19th turn). This should represent the % of the regional industry the Soviets managed to evacuate. There are also small bonuses for recapturing the main Ukrainian cities later in the war.
- There are big short-term penalties for shock, replacements and supply, if Moscow is lost. Shock will pass soon, but Soviet replacements and supply will not be fully restored. There are no bonuses for the recapture of Moscow.
- There are small short-term replacement penalties for the Soviets for losing Leningrad and Stalingrad. The replacements will be not fully restored.
- There are supply and replacement penalties for the Soviets if Vologda is lost. This must represent the cutting of the northern lend-lease route. The numbers will be restored in few turns if Vologda is recaptured.
- There are small supply penalties for the Soviets if Maikop and Grozny are lost. The Axis will get small supply bonuses for a few months after this. If those hexes are recaptured, Soviet supply will not be restored but the Axis supply will not get the permanent increase.
- Soviet supply decreases if Astrakhan (sea route to Baku cut) and Makhachkala (Baku oil fields bombed by Luftwaffe) are lost. The Astrakhan supply route can be restored.
- Soviet supply decreases significantly if Baku is lost. The Axis supply increases a few months later. The Axis supply increases again in a few months (Middle East oil) and they get 25 permanent VPs (Turkey joins Axis; Middle East captured; unrest in India etc etc). Italy does not leave the Axis, and the Italian Exp Corps is not withdrawn from Russia (summer 43). However, Axis replacements will decrease significantly, to represent the distraction of forces for the occupation of the Caucasus, Iran etc.
- If the Soviets manage to retake Baku, their supply will be slightly increased a few months later. The Axis will lose only the first increase in supply. Nothing else will change back.
- Soviet replacements decrease if the Axis capture Tbilisi, and it will be partially restored if the Soviets manage to recapture the city.
- The Italian Expeditionary Corps will be withdrawn in the summer of 43, if Baku isn't taken.
- Romania asks for peace and her army is withdrawn if the Soviets enter her territory (capture the hex with fixed border unit).
- Axis supply decreases if Ploesti (Romania) is lost.
2.3. Restrictions (rules) - Both players may not use their sea cap for invasions, but should use it for transportation purposes only.
- Axis air transport may not be used to drop units on the enemy controlled hexes.
- Railroad invasions are strictly prohibited. The units moving on RR may not enter any enemy controlled hex, including those of partisan activity in the Axis rear.
2.4. Strategy options Axis player may choose defensive strategy in the Mediterranean in the beginning of 1942 thus getting a bit more replacements, but the Soviet player gets 25 VPs in this case. (Unit moves to 1,11 hex). The unit will be withdrawn on the next turn - think quickly! Soviet player may give the historical Order 227 ("Not a single step back!") when/if the Axis troops approach to Stalingrad, thus getting a bit more replacements (unit moves to 71,24 hex). Axis player gets 25 VPs in this case. This should represent both increased tenacity and losses of the Soviet troops. You may give that order at any time after the unit appear. Silvain Dolmen |
