Encounter at Bien Dien1. Forces
2. events (check the right and left map borders for options) Options to deploy troops in different locations is available. Us deploy Air Cavalry units but with air transport in need of replacements. Replacements for air units will start later in the scenario.(turn 4-8) The ground replacements are limited and very few units may be divided. Ground transport is also limited for Arty units till transports return from other duties more north. Main goal is to capture and maintain control of Bien Dien. Us forces also gain VPs for destroying NVA heavy artillery in the area before it's transports arrive for retreat in Laos. 3. Hypothetical As U.S. and ARVN forces were becoming steadily more active in 'I Corps', it was necessary to pool together supply transports for the forces near Hue, Con Thien and Quang Tri. Those areas were needing immediate attention whereas Bien Dien was active but no NVA had been detected since US forces had been probing. Currently, there are a few platoons and squads on operations near Bien Dien to test the VC strength in the area. They know they are there, just how many and what strength is uncertain. US command seem to feel it is currently inactive, so to speak, of any real VC threat for control in the surrounding area. However, US command intends to be very active in counter-insurgency operations on the Ho Chi Minh Trail soon and Bien Dien will be a needed Strategic asset. Therefore probes and search and destroy missions are required at present. As US forces, you must maintain control of Bien Dien and surrounding villages of "friendly" civilians. Search and destroy any enemy forces. As NVA forces, you must do the same but the option to retreat to Laos is always available. Protect your big guns, the only ones in the area for miles. They are an asset to future battles to be fought against the US forces. Supplies for both forces is rather high but replacements are not. Air trans and ground trans will arrive after turns 4,5,6. But only a slow trickle. A lot of equipment and men are busy fighting other battles right now. This is sideline action, so far. |
