Polish Soviet War 1920Version 2.0 "La victoire etait polonaise,le plan polonais,l'armee polonaise." gen.Maxime Weygand Scenario only for two players or PBEM 1. Background At the end of 1919 the Russian Civil War was coming to a bitter end, and so the Red Comrades began dreaming about a worldwide revolution. The simplest plan was to export Communism to Germany, but in the way to the west lay a Poland, reborn after 124 years of non-existence. The Polish government realized that war against Poland would be started at the latest in 1921, possibly even earlier. The Polish HQ decided to strike pre-emptively in the south. The plan was simple: to liberate the Ukraine from Soviet hands, and create a Ukrainian Republic federated with Poland. The next step would be the creation of a Byelorussian Republic to the north, to push Soviet Russia deeper into the Asian hinterlands. On the eve of war in 1920, the Polish-Ukrainian Treaty was signed at Warsaw by Pilsudski and Petlura. At the same time Soviet HQ decided that the march to liberate western workers would begin in the summer of 1920. The Polish Kiev Expedition ended successfully at the beginning of May 1920, but at the end of May the Soviet counterattack began. At the middle of August 1920 the front approached the Wisla River and the outskirts of Warsaw. On August 15th, 1920 the Polish Army started the offensive, later to be called ‘Miracle on the Vistula’. Tuchachevsky's armies had been destroyed and Konarmia had retreated. The war ended in October with the Riga Peace Treaty. AA common misconception held in the West is that this was only a war between Poland and Russia, a typical war for the control over land, cities or resources. At the time very few politicians understood that this war would constitute the shape of Europe for decades, challenging the destiny of the Latin Civilization. - At Western Europe "useful idiots" like Curzon,or Lloyd George were trying to sign the peace with Soviet Russia for all costs, even by leaving Poland alone, they were to narrow thinking to see the danger of communism for Europe, later for whole World.
- Germans believed that the defeat of Poland let them destroy the Versailles Treaty(as they did allied with USSR at 1939).
- Czechoslovakia invaded Polish Cieszyn's Silesia when russian army was at the outskirts of Warsaw.
- Lithuanians believed that Soviet Russia would gave them back Wilno from polish hands. They didn't think how to protect their independence in the face of soviet bear, but only how to cut a piece of cake for their own.
- Latvia in spite of Peace Treaty with Soviet Russia tried to help Poland, latvian's units secured the retreat of polish troops during the Tuchaczewski's Offensive.
- Romanian army planed to cross the Dniestr River and attack communists, but strikes paralized Romania.Even then soviet's 14 Army was withdrawn from Poland to secure Dniestr River
- Communist Unions at western countries stroke, and screamed about polish mercenaries who invaded peaceloving Workers's Russia,it could be they realy loved GULAG and talons for bread or soap very much.
- Germany and Czechoslovakia goverments cut the trade lines from France to Poland,French goverment forced down that blockades at August 1920.
- Adm.Horty promised Hungarian Cavalry Brigade for Polish Army, but Czechoslovakian Gov. did not allow Hungarians to march through Slovakia.
- France send to Poland arms, supply, and military advicers like gen.M.Weygand,among them was cpt.Charles de Gaulle,a lot of them were fighting in the line. French fleet protected the ships coming to Poland at Baltic Sea.
- Cedric Fauntleroy formed USA air squadron the 7th "Kosciuszko" ,it was the only one "western" unit fighting at that war
2. Special notes 2.1. For "Polish" player - The line marked by " * " is to simulate the maximall range of Polish Kijow's Expedition,at the opposite to Napoleon at 1812,and Hitler at 1941 Polish HQ understood the danger of wide, roadless Russia for supply distribution lines.Next offensive to the east was planning for late summer 1920 or even spring 1921.You can march deeper into Russia ,but your supply will be permamently decreased. That option will be cancelled after the 10th turn
- If Soviets defeat Warszawa the propability of your loose will be 90% - the sudden death option
- Remember :the gates at zones are only for soviet's player
2.2. For " Soviets" player: - Zone 1 on the north will disappear at 7th turn ,till that time You can regroup your forces as You wish
- Zone 2 will disappear at 10 th turn, zones are to protect your reinforcements entrance points if You couldn't stop polish advance
- The strongest blow of soviets army took a place at 4 th of July ,but the first fights at Byellorussia took a place at 15th of May,You can wait till 4th of July,or attack at once, but beware if "Polish" player will advance deeper into Russia you will lost your reinforcements, some of them are entering at Witebsk,Orsza,Smolensk etc.
- Polish resistance will grow up if You drive deeper into Poland,it was a very unpleasent surprise for Tuchaczewski
