Background The "Convention montagnarde" had taken power in France on June 2nd 1793 and instaured the "Terreur". The major french cities, favourable to the "Girondins" rebelled one after the other: Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes,... The repression organised by the representatives is brutal. Many innocents are arrested and executed to terrify the "traitors". But the town of Toulon did not do the mistake to stand alone. Toulon asked for the help of an ennemy of the French Republic, with the largest fleet in the world : England. The English Fleet under Admiral Hood lands troops in Toulon and occupies the city and its defenses. A republican army from the north, after seizing Lyon and the Rhone valley, marched towards Toulon to stop the "counter-revolution". Thus begins the siege of Toulon, who would last four months. Young Captian of artillery Bonaparte, arrived in Toulon on September 16th 1793, where the situation was critical: all the attempts to smash the defences failed. Bonaparte quickly saw the opportunity for decision if one could have artillery to reach in range of the Toulon petite rade, then the English fleet would have to leave or be sunk. His direct commanders did not allow Bonaparte to act. But when the new commander of the Republican Army, General Dugommier arrives on november 3rd, he gives Bonaparte approval to launch the attack. The effect is immediate. On December 12th, the Fort Eguillette falls and on the 17th Fort Mulgrave, Balaguier and Faron fall. Bonaparte orders to sink the English fleet with his batteries and on the 19th, the English fleet must leave, leaving behind them 4000 dead or prisoners and six ships destroyed or captured. Napoléon Bonaparte arrived in Toulon a Captain and leaves as a General. His next moment of Glory will be in Italy in 1796. 2. Events There is a chance that some of the 3000+ wounded treated in the Toulon hospital come back for duty. If so, a unit appears that you can disband so that its assets go to the replacement pool.
