Northern Mazovia September Campaign 1939 series Scenario only for two players or PBEM,could be played also polish side versus computer.Is not to be played german side against AI. "Under the very fine crossfire from bunkers our soldiers were laying down, like on the table plate,the first assault had been stopped.":Heinrich Spiecker "Durchbruch bei Mlawa"-"Deutsche Ostwacht" from 2nd of October 1942. 1. Scenario based on Wargame game : "Mlawa 1939 " edited by Dragon and scenario "Fall Weis'39" edited by CSTO 2. Background At 1939 East Prussia,the part of III Reich,flanked polish territory far to the east.A distance from East Prussia border to Warsaw was shorter than from Cracow or Poznañ to polish capital. For that reason polish Supreme HQ decided to build near a town Mlawa the Mlawski Rejon Umocniony ( Mlawa's Fortified Area ).It wasn't been finished at 01.IX.1939 (45 bunkers from 93 at Mlawa,5 from 50 at Rzegnów,4 from 14 at Lidzbark,none from 40 at Przasnysz) ,but inspite of that was a very unpleasant surprise for Germans.For two days two german's IDs ,supported by "Kempf" PzD were bleeding in front of polish lines.At the 3rd day PzDiv."Kempf" bypassed Mlawa Fortified Area through Ciechanów,destroying polish 8th ID. The old russians forts ,from Ist WW,were guarding the rivers Bug and Narew.Both rivers are very difficult to cross,because of theirs swamps and wide run. Napoleon's established fortress Modlin was protecting Warsaw from the North-West direction.Modlin was built at the place where Bug is flowing into Wisla river.Divided into three independent parts was very hard to besieged. From East Prussia Germans could attack into three directions. First : to the East , directly to Lublin and Brzesc,to meet the 10th Army of gen.W.von Reichenau and cut Poland in two parts. Second : to the South-East, to encirceled Warsaw from the East. And third : to the South, to cross Wisla river in Plock or Wyszogród and crush the rear areas of polish armies "Lódz" and "Poznañ",defending Warsaw from the West and South-West. The terrain of Northern Mazovia was easy to defend,because of a great number of rivers,streams,swamps and forests,but polish Supreme HQ divided its forces in two independent groups : Armia "Modlin" on the West and Samodzielna Grupa Operacyjna (Independent Operational Group) "Narew" behind Narew river.The lack of coordination between them ( especially from the side of SGO"Narew" commander gen.Mlot-Fijalkowski ) allowed Germans to fight two different battles.First against Army "Modlin",and after gen.Guderian's XIX PzKorps arrived,the second against alone SGO "Narew". At the 17th of September Poland was invaded by Soviet Russia,allied with III Reich,so the game is ending at 40th turn ( the 20th of September ),it is hard to simulate soviets influence to Polish defence.Historical Germans and Russians met themselves near Brzesc,a little far to the East from eastern end off the map. 3. Special notes 1)I gave polish units Heavy ATR ,because polish ATG Bofors cal.37mm was better than germans PAK 35/36.Theirs armour piercing capability was closer to 45 mm ATG ,than 37 mm.Next : polish ATR Ur-1 was one of the best in the beginning of war,only little worse than russians PTR,but shorter and lighter.At last : polish 75 mm Guns were been recalibrated at 30's and fitted with AT rounds.They were not of course like 75 mm ATG ,but some of germans tanks were been shoot by them. Polish air units are historical,germans not. German Flak and Polish Plot at the airfields are not historical. Sudden death option : "German " player takes locations like : 4,36 16,41 27,40 before 11th turn and locations : 62,40 55,42 48,41 before 9th turn gives German Overhelming Victory 5)Fixed artilery units at fortifications ( except " Wizna" bn,and Mlawski RU ) at Narew river are to simulate the old russians forts from WW I,their garrisons were a part of IDs from SGO "Narew" ,but in some cases they were joined to infrantry ,at the others were left to cover the withdraw of SGO "Narew".Nearly the same situation is with Plock and Wyszogród garrisons. Railroad bypass is to simulate the connection through warsaw's railway stations between SGO "Narew" and Army "Modlin",historically that connection was much more to the South. There is serious problem to simulate polish armoured units at 1939.Polish armoured cars wz.29 and some of wz.34 were been armed by 37 mm ATG like tanks 7 TP jw,TKS recon tank very often was armed in 20 mm ATG (like PzKpfw II ).For that reason there are additional 37 mm ATG, 25 mm ATG,wheeled and tracked tractors at polish units. I supposed there is only a small chance for draw for "polish" player."German" player has to much equipment and soldiers,but it is like that was at 1939. Poland receives additional 25 victory points when holds Mlawa ( 18 / 19 ) till the 9th turn. Polish 35th ID and Grupa Grodzieñska were been planned as reinforcements for SGO "Narew" ,but when polish defence on Narew river were been broken ,Supreme HQ send them to Lwów at South-Eastern Poland.At the scenario polish player has 35th and Gr.Grodzieñska,because it could happen that polish lines won't be broken. 4.
