Battle for Moscow 1941 Version 2.0 Introduction: The battle for Moscow - "Operation Typhoon" -- was in many ways the most interesting operation of the first year of the eastern war. It is an almost perfect microcosm of the entire Barbarossa operation. The Axis have the initial advantage and can make stunning initial advances. But they are racing against the clock, desperately attempting to destroy the Red army and to capture Moscow before their most formidable opponent - the Russian weather - shuts down their offensive. The Soviets for their part must conduct a desperate defense, knowing that if they can hold out until December, they will have marshaled sufficient reserves for an opportunity to turn the tables, to halt the Germans in their tracks, and perhaps to inflict a first shattering defeat on a to-that-point undefeated German army. This scenario depicts the full sweep of this critical battle, from Lake Ilmen to Kursk. All of Army Group Centre is depicted, as well as the increasingly-formidable Soviet forces thrown up to defend the Soviet capital. "Battle for Moscow 2.0" can be played PBEM or as the Axis side against a computer-controlled Soviet. It cannot be played as the Soviet against a computer-controlled Axis. After-action reports, comments and suggestions warmly received. Email 'em to briantopp@home.com. |
