Custoza 1866Version: 1.0 PO 1. Background In conjunction with a Prussian offensive against northern Austria and the south German states, the Italians have launched an offensive against southern Austria. As preparation for subsequent operations against Verona, the Italians have thus delgated an army to cross the Mincio river, and advance to the line Sona-Villafranca. In addition, the Italians are expected to seize the Austrian fortifications at Peschiera, along with the central crossroads at Custoza. The Italian force consists of approximately 65'000 infantry, arranged into sixteen light brigades. In opposition, the Austrians have dispatched approximately 75'000 troops of the South Army, arranged into eleven brigades. 2. For historical comparison, infantry fatalities are calculated at approximately 25% of the lost equipment values. The rest are wounded, captured, or missing. Hexes are 0.5km in diameter.
