Demyansk 1942A scenario depicting the German operation "Bridging Strike" to relieve the Demyansk pocket and the desperate Russian attempts to reduce it before the Germans could succeed. 1. GERMAN COLORS
2. RUSSIAN COLORS
3. PO The Russian PO is a real challange to play against. The German PO is, frankly, a dud. The developer just couldn't find a way to get Elmer to handle the delicate German situation elegantly. 4. VICTORY Staraya Russya, Ramushevo, Sofrokovo, and Federovka are each worth 30 points. Kalitkina and Molvotitsy are worth 50. Rusino is 90. This means that the Soviets start with 190 VP in their possesion and the Germans with 120. In order to win the Germans must take Rusino from the Russians and hold all the others they begin with. The Russians must prevent this either directly by successfully blocking the advance on Russino or by reducing the pocket (i.e. taking Federovka/Sofrokovo) before Rusino is lost. Note that Demyansk and the airfield above it are not worth any victory points. If, however, the Russians manage to take the airfield before a corridor is opened to the pocket, the Germans are likely to lose the entire II Korps and thus go down on points. 5. REINFORCEMENTS There aren't any. 6. REPLACEMENTS Everything is normal except SS units receive them at a slightly higher rate. 7. EVENTS A warm front occurs on move five. By move 7 the theater has turned to muddy goop and a cease fire takes place which goes on for 3 days (6 turns). Historically, the Germans used this time to reposition the axis of their attack. 8. UNIT RECONSTITUTION Only air units reconstitute. |
