3. DESIGNER NOTES
Gen Hodges of the 1st Army, supported by Gen Simpson's 9th Army, was ordered to push through the supposedly weak German forces in the Huertgenwald while similtaneously taking Charlemagne's imperial city, Aachen. However the dense wooded terrain, coupled with the carefully laid defenses of the Siegfried line, stimed all attempts to break through. Operations dragged for three months until Hitler's last gamble, Wacht am Rhein, put an temporary end to all Allied offensive operations.
