The Jacobite Rebellion It is ten years after the War of the Roses. The Lancastrians won, sending the Yorkists in exile. They helped to overthrow the Stuart dynasty in neighboring Scotland and replaced them with a puppet ruler, George I. Aided by the Scottish Kingmaker Laird Campbell, they have begun to ally themselves with the Soviet Bloc who will send aid to them in the present war. However, Bonnie Prince Charlie, the exiled Stuart heir is back to reclaim his throne and country, and he has help. The exiled Yorkists have thrown together what forces they could to aid him. The Lancastrian British will follow suit. As the Stuarts were pro-US and pro-Western Alliance, the US is preparing to intervene on Charlie's behalf as well! This little brushfire war may soon be the beginning of World War III! SCALE: 10km per hex CLIMATE: Temperate to cool, varies with season. MAP SIZE: 84 x 106 TURNS: 100 maximum (less if one side gets an Overwhemling Victory level) TURN LENGTH: Half-Week turns FORMATIONS: Regimental and Brigade level. Most on Army Support, US and Communist forces on higher levels. COLOR SCHEME: Blue/Blue - Jacobites Blue/White - Yorkist exiles Green/Dk. Blue - US Navy Green/Tan - US Marines Green/Lt. Blue - US Air Force Green/Lt. Green - US Army Lt. Blue/White - Scottish Government Lt. Blue/Red - Lancastrian British Red/Gold - Scottish People's Army Red/Black - Communist Guerillas EVENTS: Yorkist and Lancastrian reinforcements will arrive between turns 1-5. There is a 25% chance of US and/or Communist intervention on turn 3. 50% on turn 6, 75% on turn 9, and a sure intervention on turn 12. SPECIAL VICTORY: A victory level of 100 (overwhelming) for either side brings the campaign to a close. No other special victory conditions THEATER OPTIONS: None. Interventions and Reinforcements are automatic (with random chance as to when) SPECIAL NOTES: Most reinforcements appear at major objective sites for both sides. However, USAF, USN and USMC reinforcements arrive at a staging area on the Isle of Lewis, Western Hebrides. STRATEGY NOTES: Scotland is a very rugged country. The main lines of advance will be through whatever mountain glens can be used. The Dalmochter Pass in the central Grampain Mts is of especial importance. Early game advances are possible but with the large intervention forces possible on each side, getting caught deep in enemy territory with a small force will mean certain doom. SPECIAL EVENTS: On turn 10 there is a 33% chance that some tourist will see 'something' in Loch Ness. If this happens, tourists will disregard the warzone and flood the roads all around Loch Ness trying for a glimpse of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. (a 'refugee' event for each side 5 hex radius of the Loch). CREDITS: Basic idea taken from "The Jacobite Rebellions 1689-1745" by Barthop and Embleton of the "Men at Arms" series. Map based on a National Geographic map "British Isles" from 1979. Unit composition based on Andy Johnson's "NATO Order of Battle 1989" in order to build realistic forces. |
